The Stock Control Specialist at the ASP prepares for a unit’s ammunition issue. Specifically, the Stock Control Specialist:
Receives a request for ammunition through TAMIS. Determines that the ASP has a valid DA FORM 1687 on file with an authorized receiver. Creates a DA Form 3151-R to be used for inventory.
When inspecting the ammunition transport vehicle:
The Vehicle Inspector at the ASP uses DD Form 626 to inspect the vehicles that will transport the ammunition. The person who inspects the vehicle at the unit completes the Origin fields on the DD Form 626; and the Vehicle Inspector at the ASP completes the Destination field and signs the form.
The Customer Service Clerk and Ammunition Handler issue ammunition and ensures that the unit receives the correct type and quantity of ammunition for training.
The Customer Service Clerk verifies the unit has all the necessary forms and ensures lot numbers and quantities match on all Forms. The Ammunition Handler ensures ammunition is loaded and secured properly and annotates the DA Form 3151-R.
Ammunition Handlers process the live ammunition turn-in and help residue personnel process a unit’s residue turn-in.
When the unit turns in live ammunition, the Ammunition Handlers compares the items turned in to the inventory list on DA Form 3151-R and inspect the ammunition. Ammunition Handlers ensure no live ammunition is mixed in with residue. They inspect boxes and containers and calculate quantity based on brass weight. Once residue is turned in, residue personnel properly stores and ships residue according to the ASP’s SOP and Army procedures.
The process for turning in amnesty ammunition is similar to that of turning in live ammunition:
Unit personnel collects ammunition from the amnesty collection containers and takes inventory. Surveillance personnel inspects the ammunition and creates DA Form 3151-R. SAAS Operator generates an automated DA FOrm 3151-R. Customer Service Clerk creates reports for amnesty ammunition the ASP receives.
Processing malfunctioning ammunition starts in the field:
When unit personnel reports an ammunition malfunction, the Range NCO calls an immediate cease fire. Unit personnel clears the area, and the Range NCO ensures no one touches the materials until the ASP Surveillance Personnel can determine if the items can be removed safely. If so, unit personnel repackages the ammunition. If not, EOD personnel destroys the items on the field. The Surveillance Personnel submits an Ammunition Malfunction report.
