TOPIC
Chapter 1 (Alfaro-LeFevre):
Critical Thinking Versus Nursing
Process
What are the 6 steps to the nursing process per ANA?
Assessment
Diagnosis
Outcome identification
Planning
Implementation
evaluation
What is the purpose of the nursing process? How will it help you
as a nurse?
Serves as a critical thinking model that promotes a
competent level of care.
This means that the nursing process—Assess, Diagnose,
Plan, Implement, and Evaluate—is the major tool for clinical
reasoning.
It’s the first tool you need to know to think like a nurse and
pass NCLEX® and other exams.

Chapter 3: Key Concepts
Common in Nursing Models
What are the common concepts common in nursing models?
Client or patient (individual or collective)- complex
entities affected by various interrelating factors, such as
the mind and body, the individual and the environment,
and the person and the person's family
Health- health as a continuum, ranging from a completely
healthy state in which there is no disease to a completely
unhealthy state, which results in death
Environment- the simple physical environment to
elements such as living conditions, public sanitation, and
air and water quality. Factors such as interpersonal
relationships and social interactions are also included.
Nursing-After consideration of what it means to be a
client, what it means to be healthy, and how the
environment influences the client's health status (either
positively or negatively), the concept of nursing
delineates the function and role of nurses in their
relationships with clients that affect the client's health
Why is the client central to all nursing models?
The concept of client (or patient) is central to all nursing
models because it is the client who is the primary
recipient of nursing care
